New material: Cannabis as a harm reduction tool

The use of cannabis as a treatment of multiple diseases and illnesses has been documented over time in many cultures.

Many participants in Metzineres use this plant for different reasons. Some of us do so for pleasure, others to relief physical discomfort, to face different situations of vulnerability, stigma and violence that we survive from. We use cannabis to reduce pain, to modulate the effect of other psychoactive substances with more associated risks, in food disorders, to withstand the side effects of chemotherapy, in sleep disturbances, anxiety, distress, and in alleviating stress from fear and trauma, among others.

“Cannabis as a harm reduction tool” resource has been inspired by the experiences of Metzineres’ project participants and with the collaboration of other drugs and gender experts.

It is a tool based on harm reduction full spectrum philosophy, designed to be peer-to-peer shared and to push a debate in the community and in drug policy field about a reality not often discussed and researched.

This leaflet is available in Catalan, Spanish and English. We call on both individuals and organizations to download and share it through their networks.

Surviving the War on Drugs – Live Video Painting at AWID Festival

This is the video that our colleague and graffiti artist, Maligneando, made live during the conference “Surviving the war on drugs” that we runned at the Awid feminist festival.

She was collecting the different key concepts that the speakers were mentioning about the survival strategies that they and their organizations carry out… and she created this unique piece 😊

METZIRADIO

MetziRadio 20/21 – Teatre Arnau Itinerant

Faced with the strong impact of gentrification processes, multiple and complex realities of the Raval resist rootlessness, generating multicultural cohesion spaces, organizing resistance from solidarity and mutual support.

The violent state of transformation confronts the voices of its inhabitants, unwilling to turn off or disappear. Honoring the fame and nickname of that Chinese District that the Raval proudly inherits.

Of all these voices, the most marginalised. The voices of women and non-binary gender people, the Metzineres, survive multiple violences and vulnerabilities from generating free and autonomous spaces. Creativity born of precariousness.

In this context, and within the Arnau Itinerant Theatre program, the MetziRadio emerges. A socio-cultural laboratory that distils self-determination from unique experiences through the techniques of story telling and theatricalization, created jointly by Metzineres, RavalTep, Vidda Priego and Marta Molina.
