{"id":2880,"date":"2023-08-24T02:37:12","date_gmt":"2023-08-24T02:37:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/metzineres.org\/31-de-agosto-dia-internacional-de-sensibilizacion-de-la-sobredosis\/"},"modified":"2025-04-07T14:09:05","modified_gmt":"2025-04-07T14:09:05","slug":"31st-august-international-overdose-awareness-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/metzineres.org\/en\/31st-august-international-overdose-awareness-day\/","title":{"rendered":"31st August &#8211; International Overdose Awareness Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"post-prev-title\">\n<p>August 31 is\u00a0<strong>International Overdose Awareness Day.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>What is happening in our territories in the face of this public health crisis?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>According to the Spanish Observatory on Drugs and Addictions (OEDA), in 2020, in the whole State,\u00a0<strong>974 deaths<\/strong>\u00a0directly related to an overdose were reported.<\/li>\n<li>In\u00a0<strong>Catalan prisons<\/strong>, overdoses accounted for\u00a0<strong>11.4% of all deaths.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Since\u00a0<strong>2011<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>60 overdose deaths<\/strong>\u00a0have been reported in the prison setting, from which we must still demand much more to guarantee the most basic human rights.<\/li>\n<li>On the other hand, outside the prison setting, in the<strong>\u00a0supervised consumption rooms<\/strong>\u00a0in Catalonia,\u00a0<strong>176\u00a0overdoses have been reversed<\/strong>\u00a0in 2021 alone.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Overdose deaths are caused by public policies based on the\u00a0<strong>prohibition<\/strong>\u00a0of some substances and the\u00a0<strong>criminalization<\/strong>\u00a0of consumers, which leads to\u00a0<strong>social isolation, vulnerability, stigmatization, marginalization and ignorance.<\/strong>\u00a0In addition, prohibition maintains a monopoly of products in the market without quality control.<\/p>\n<p>For all these reasons, as we do every year, we join this international campaign to raise awareness of\u00a0<strong>one of the worst public health crises in the world<\/strong>, to stimulate action and debate on overdose prevention, to commemorate the people we have lost along the way, and also to remember that these have been\u00a0<strong>unjust and avoidable deaths.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Join us on this day of remembrance and vindication by joining the rally:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>August 31, 2023<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>18.00h<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Pla\u00e7a Sant Jaume.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Convene:\u00a0<strong>CATNPUD &#8211; Xarxa de persones que usen drogues<\/strong><br \/>\nAnd all the entities that are part of it:\u00a0<strong>ARSU, Asaupam, AUPA\u2019M, \u00c0mbit Prevenci\u00f3, CatFAC, DonARSU TOT, Episteme, FAAAT-FDM, ICEERS, Metzineres, REMA and XADUD.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>International campaign:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.overdoseday.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International Overdose Awareness Day<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>#EndOverdose\u00a0#IOAD2023<\/strong><\/p>\n<h1><strong><a class=\"postlink\" href=\"https:\/\/metzineres.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Manifest_CATNPUD___Dia_sobredosi_2023.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Read the manifesto here<\/a><\/strong><\/h1>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"adjuntambpeu\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/metzineres.net\/imgdata\/IOAD2023___Cartell_4_3__Facebook_i_Twitter_.jpg\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>August 31 is\u00a0International Overdose Awareness Day.
