This is an important step, achieved thanks to pressure from the community, the neighborhood, allied organizations, and the more than 4,500 people who signed in defense of Metzineres.<\/p>\n<p>But one thing must be clear: a public commitment is not a purchase. The lease extension for the premises on Carrer de la Lluna ends on September 30, and right now, there is still no guaranteed structural solution.<\/p>\n<p>What is at stake is not only the continuity of an organization. The day began with a community paella outside the premises on Carrer de la Lluna, continued with a banner-making workshop, and ended at the District headquarters in Pla\u00e7a del Bonsucc\u00e9s, where womxn, neighbors, organizations, and allies filled the room.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal, jointly presented by Barcelona en Com\u00fa and ERC and amended through a last-minute proposal from the PSC, received votes in favor from BCom\u00fa, ERC, PSC, and Junts, and a vote against from the Popular Party.<\/p>\n<p><b>The approved text<\/b>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>&#8211; Recognizes Metzineres as an essential service<\/b> for the city in feminist policies, community health, social inclusion, and responses to gender-based violence.<\/li>\n<li>&#8211; <b>Urges the immediate promotion of measures to prevent the project\u2019s displacement<\/b>, exploring the public acquisition of the building at Lluna 3 through purchase, right of first refusal and withdrawal, assignment, or other legal formulas.<\/li>\n<li>&#8211; <strong>Requires a temporary solution to be guaranteed within El Raval<\/strong> itself if the purchase is not immediate, in order not to interrupt the activity or break the community bond.<\/li>\n<li>&#8211; <strong>Commits the government to immediately and periodically informing<\/strong> political groups and the community network about the status of the negotiations.<\/li>\n<li>&#8211; <b>Proposes strengthening economic and technical support to make the project sustainable in the long term.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Now the commitment is public and enforceable. The neighborhood spoke.<\/p>\n<p>Ant\u00f2nia Raya, a nurse at CAP Raval Nord, said it plainly: <i>Metzineres prevents deaths<\/i>. Neighbors Elisabeth Benito and Eva Fern\u00e1ndez defended <i>a project that is essential and loved by the local community<\/i>, and called for a larger space so that the team can work without the anguish of uncertainty over its continuity. For local shopkeeper Pere Pina, <i>the work done there \u201cis priceless\u201d.<\/i> And addiction expert Maite Tudela recalled that <i>this internationally recognized model cannot be lost without sending a devastating message: that speculation comes before social justice<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>And we spoke too. La Sirena Morgana and Manuela explained what Metzineres is when the system persecutes you: <i>protection against a witch hunt, a place where we are active subjects and not objects of intervention<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Aura Roig summed it up with a clear image: <i>we started as five womxn, and more than 700 have passed through<\/i>. The neighborhood has decided that Metzineres stays.<\/p>\n<p><b>What we still do not have<\/b>: no signed purchase or assignment, no timeline with dates. The lease extension ends on September 30. Until the solution is signed, Metzineres remains at risk.<\/p>\n<p>Collective pressure has secured the first yes. Now we need that yes to become action.<\/p>\n<p><b>On May 28, we showed that mobilization works<\/b>. But we also remembered that community spaces do not survive on their own. They need community, institutional commitment, and a city willing to defend what creates life in its neighborhoods.<\/p>\n<p>If the extraordinary plenary session took place, it is because more than 4,500 people signed, because allied organizations threw themselves into the effort, and because this neighborhood does not give up.
