Museums, like other cultural spaces, often remain inaccessible and out of reach for those of us existing outside the margins of a conventional society.<\/p>\n<p>At Metzineres,\u00a0<strong>we continuously seek out the cracks in the system<\/strong>\u00a0through which we can sneak in. Thanks to the years of skill and determination, on February 21st,\u00a0<strong>twelve works created by the Metzineres were displayed on the walls of the tower of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona (MACBA)<\/strong>\u00a0for an entire day. Pretty cool, right?<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/metzineres.net\/imgdata\/macba_expo_collages__2_.JPG\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Passersby, some by chance and friends we had invited, stared attentively for a long while. The pieces conveyed\u00a0<strong>various ways of imagining a possible and utopian Raval,<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>our neighborhood\u2014a unique place where our existences are not constantly questioned and criminalized<\/strong>, as is the case elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/metzineres.net\/imgdata\/macba_expo_collages__3_.JPG\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/metzineres.net\/imgdata\/macba_expo_collages__4_.JPG\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The artworks were admired, photographed, and praised. Some of us were there to witness it firsthand. We were thrilled and pleasantly surprised by this recognition, and it simultaneously gave us the strength to keep dreaming big.\u00a0<strong>&#8220;From here to the MOMA!&#8221;<\/strong>\u2014as one of our colleagues exclaimed while laughing, referring to the Museum of Modern Art in New York.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/metzineres.net\/imgdata\/macba_expo_collages__5_.JPG\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/metzineres.net\/imgdata\/macba_expo_collages__6_.JPG\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This exhibition became possible within the framework of the<strong>\u00a0exhibition &#8216;108 Days&#8217; by the artist Lydia Ourahmame<\/strong>. It is a large, participative, and vindicative work in which 108 collectives participated (one per day) with various proposals, including talks, films, performances, and other actions.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/metzineres.net\/imgdata\/macba_expo_collages__7_.JPG\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/metzineres.net\/imgdata\/macba_expo_collages__8_.JPG\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/metzineres.net\/imgdata\/macba_expo_collages__9_.JPG\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hopefully, one day an event like this will not be considered an\u00a0<strong>act of subversion and resistance.<\/strong>\u00a0Hopefully, it will become entirely normal for people like us to express our feelings through any form of art and share them with the world, having finally managed to\u00a0<strong>decolonize and depatriarchalize<\/strong>\u00a0these spaces.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/metzineres.net\/imgdata\/macba_expo_collages__10_.JPG\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/metzineres.net\/imgdata\/macba_expo_collages__11_.JPG\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Photos by\u00a0Andre Gaetano [Metzineres Photographer]<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Women and gender-diverse individuals facing situations of violence and vulnerability\u00a0are not commonly invited to exhibit at city museums.
